With a vague memory of Qedit responding to at least some WordStar commands, 
are you up for a WordStar-type editor?  If so, you might look for SUE, 
Simple Unix Editor, aka UDE, Unix Display Editor, based on a very early 
(CP/M) version of Visual Display Editor, VDE.  Try
