I've had trouble with the following scenarios with Quicken 4 for Windows:
On entering my wife's paycheck as a deposit (direct deposited) to our
checking account, I break down the various deductions (taxes, etc.) and
identify them by category (using SPLITS). One entry on the paycheck stub
represents money put into an after tax fund, which is no problem. I have
created an investment account for that fund. Another entry on the paycheck
stub represents company matching put into that same fund.
Is there any way I can show that money going into the fund directly? If I
try to put money into that account, I need to specify where it is being
transferred from - and it's not being transferred from another of my accounts
- it's outside money!
For now, in the splits on the paycheck, I make a negative entry for the
amount and assign it to the fund, and I make a positive entry and assign it
to a bogus account, but this doesn't really solve the problem at all, just
lets the splits add up right. The bogus account is now short the amount I
transferred!
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
