subject: Ford 302 Surge

Anybody out there have some experience with a Ford 302 I/O? Just did a
minor tuneup on my 190 hp (cap/rotor/plugs/pts/condenser) motor, and it
SURGES. Can't get the motor to idle below about 800 rpm or so.
My ace mechanic(son-JJ) says the advance does not increase when the
rpm's are increased. Thinks it needs springs/etc in the distributor.
Does this sound right? Any idea what a rebuild on a dist. costs?
Thanks.
PS: I just found out the spring on the distributor was broken, and it
was quite dirty inside.
Guess the kid was right. So after he cleans the unit and puts in a new
spring, we'll see if the surge/idle problem has been handled.
