For me Trek (at least in the original series and part of the Next
Generation) is something that stretches the imagination and takes us
somewhere we've never been before. It makes us think of who we are and what
we might become.

Star Trek used to brake barriers and really did go where no television
series had gone before. It took risks both in terms of stories and with
its characters. It was an adventure that took us along and made us think
the possibilities of human existence were limitless.

Aside from that, I think the Star Trek universe as it has developed over
the years is a rich and complex place with incredible opportunities for
storytelling.

Star Wars, which I adore, really is not science fiction. Its more a modern
retelling of the basic myths of humanity. Outside of the scope and scale
of the stories being told I don't think comparing Star Trek and Star Wars
is all that useful.

I tried watching Space: Above and Beyond, but never did get grabbed by it.
I never really felt a connection to the characters.
