I think it's more a problem that rests with me than with the idea of
show and tell. It never seems to work the way I think it should. I
should mention that I have many other opportunities for each child to
speak in from of the group. We do a sharing of our work and have many
group discussions. Still, children do like to bring in things from home
to "share" and nearly all the early childhood workshops I have attended
encourage some form of "show and tell." I like the idea of calling it
"sharing." It makes more sense.
One teacher I know has a sharing table where the children bring in their
sharing items and put them on the table for others to see. The formula
you present above seems like a great idea. I may give it a try.
SK>I believe that at our school, the teachers consider it an important
SK>part of public speaking.
Now I'm feeling guilty . But there certainly are other ways (many
ways) of providing children opportunities for public speaking (Author's
chair, reports).
