Steve is right. Most surgeons will try to us 8mm. At 44 your pupil will not
dilate enough to see many distortions with an 8mm incision. There is
frequently mild contrast sensitivity loss (not good when looking at low
contrast objects in a telescope).  Statistically one in 34 will loose some
best corrected acuity (not good for splitting doubles or planetary
viewing). Probably 95% of people are happy with the outcome in spite of any
problems, but less than 95% of the population looks through telescopes.....
It all depends on what you can live with. The goal of surgery is
"20/Happy" many times it is also 20/20.
