-> BF> It's not my fault that English has no means to distinguish -> BF> between second person singular and plural... -> what's wrong with "you" for singular" and "you all" or "you folk" or some such? -> sure seems to me to be a method of distinguishing singular from plural... -> ya'll come back, heah? That is the correct useage, and it survived for centuries in rural areas, mountains, and the Southern United States. But now, if someone uses the second person plural, there will be a snob nearby who won't understand and will take it as a sign of a lack of education. But we get our own snickers in when the snob tries to mimic it and winds up incorrectly using "ya'll" when referring to a single person. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: BBS Networks {at} www.bbsnets.com 808-839-5016 (1:10/345) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
