It is. It stands for CLear Interrupts. It's a mnemonic.
I used to use it back when I was programming in ML on the C=64.
Didn't have any assembly language, but you could use assembler
mnemonics instead of the sixteen bit code values if you had the
right monitor cartridge. I started with HesMon, and later went
to the SuperSnapshot cart. I still have notebooks with notes on
addresses for branching logic and subroutines and program modules.
Command Line Interface came into use as opposed to GUI when they
needed handy references for two different systems of interaction.
You have no idea how refreshing it is to play with ANSI C! :)
OOps! Upon further review, it seems that the term goes back to
CPM, which I never used, and so remained ignorant.
