Not broken - the difference is that SP3 uses encrypted passwords by default.
There's a registry entry documented in the SP3 README from the web site that
will change the default. Samba can also be reconfigured to recognize and
utilize the encrypted passwords (I think - one of the people who works for me
ran into this and I understand that he fixed it by reconfiguring Samba but
haven't discussed details yet).
