This is just my understanding, so don't take it as gospel.
I'm assuming your friend doesn't spend much time in light restricted =
settings. When the procedure is done, doctors are only allowed to = correct
a certain diameter of the cornea (as set by some govt agency I'm = sure).
This diameter is just a couple of mm smaller than the diameter of = a fully
dialated pupil. As a group we strive for dialated pupils = (witness those
who walk around at star parties with red goggles on prior = to lights out).
Since only part of your FOV is corrected when your eyes = are fully
dialated you get the star patterns/light spikes/etc.=20
Now not everyone's pupil opens up to the same size. Do you know the size =
of your fully dialated pupil? If so, find out what diameter the doctor =
can correct to and if it's smaller than your dialated pupil size, don't =
do it.
Again, this is mostly hearsay so double check with your doctor and = please
let me know if I've got it wrong.

This may be off topic a bit and may generate varied discussion, but, I like
many Ambers where glasses. My vision is not very good without them, and I
am 44 years old. I have always heard night vision with Lasik corrective
vision surgery can cause star like patterns at night for = those
who have had the surgery performed, and I have considered doing the
procedure before. On the other hand, a good friend of mine who is not a
ATM'er swears by the procedure and does not have any problems with it. Has
anyone seen any medical article or experience that documents the affects of
this procedure on night vision? Don't worry, I am not looking for a medical
opinion or recommendation from anybody on the list! = Thanks.
