> Multiple Sclerosis Patient To Travel To Washington For Medical
> Marijuana -- Husband To Push Wheelchair For 250-Mile Walk
>
> October 10, 1996, Jersey City, NJ: On October 14, Jim and Cheryl
> Miller will embark on a 235-mile walk to Washington D.C. to raise
> awareness for medical marijuana.
> Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1971, Ms. Miller has been
> unable to walk for over a dozen years. Her physician has prescribed
> her numerous medications, including the synthetic THC capsule Marinol,
> yet she claims that natural marijuana offers her the greatest relief
> for her illness. Her doctor states that he would prescribe her
> marijuana in the plant form if it was legal to do so.
> "I hope that by bringing attention to my wife Cheryl, I can cause
> marijuana to be made available so that she and others are no longer
> needlessly forced to suffer with their pain or risk arrest," said Mr.
> Miller. "Right now, the only relief Cheryl can get from her painful
> muscle spasms subjects her to the risk of being put in jall and having
> her bank account and property seized."
> The Millers intend to arrive in Washington, D.C. on October 21,
> where they plan on meeting with representatives from the Office of
> National Drug Control Policy, Drug Enforcement Administration, and
> the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. They also hope to
> persuade their representatives in Congress to come out in favor of
> legal access to medical marijuana.

I have MS and Glaucoma and went to Washington DC with appointments to see
people with I thought power.... Before you take on this venture on going to
the government... be ready for rejection from everyone you speak with. It's
not that they think your crazy, they just don't want to put their name on
anything that has anything to do with marijuana. You will not find
compassion in Washington DC. We walked to our Capitol a few years back and
again we were turned down like a bed sheet. In fact the ACLU in my area just
rejected to challenge the government on my behalf and others because of a
1994 court ruling from DC... not sure what that was but the state of Mass. is
doning something to allow sick people to gain access to this medicine that
helps me and millions of other sick people. Keep pushing and you may find
someone who just might feel your pain and will HELP.
Sick people in this country must engineer their own treatment to find relief
and to circumvent side effects that can kill you.
