It really depends what you're mastering.  Our radi show masters to DAT.  At 
$100, if you pre-invest in a lot of tape, you may not be risking much... but 
DAT recorders have come down in price too, haven't they?
It seems that radio shack sold blank 8-track tapes until recently, and, 
because they sold DCC, perhaps that indicates future availability of tape 
from them.
