Meko had a reputation as an escape artist at the Humane
Society; she regularly unlatched her cage door and wandered
around the cat-room overnight. The staff finally resorted to
padlocking the cage door in order to keep her from visiting
the new arrivals (who stayed in quarantine-cages across the
room from the "regulars"). I didn't ask, but I presume the
padlock was effective as long as they kept the keys out of
her reach.
... The door is the most horrendous human invention, to cats.
