Alan,
   Let's try one more thing just to verify that that really is a 300
bit/s connect.  From terminal mode and the port set to at least
38,400 bit/s try issuing an
AT&FS95=60\V1
The modem should return "OK"
then dial via
ATDTn (where "n" is the number you are dialing)
and then let us know what connect messages you get (you should see the
connect, protocol, etc. messages there).
Also, when not connected, try issuing an ATi3 to the modem and let us
know what it returns.
   Also,  if it's convenient, you might try sending these results to
us at support@os.hayes.com.  It's much easier for us to deal with an
