Well, this is giving me ideas. I needed for K7 to remain there for the
pur= pose of the
story and for the planet to be in Federation hands. I was worried that
som= ething in
canon might imply a different outcome for Sherman's Planet (not that
ultima= tely canon
matters for us). Therefore, I have decided the following for the purposes
= of Steve-Trek
and in particular the possible story entitled "Troubled Tribbles."
Sherman's World (surprisingly, it's not on my detailed starmap, so I'll
hav= e to add it):
A Federation planet, officially labelled as a colony world. The current
po= pulation (2377)
is about two million Federation citizens, approximately half of which are
h= uman and=20
the rest include representatives of other Federation races. About 100,000 = Klingons
live there, mostly from the Qo'nos subbranch. Sherman's World was designat= ed as
a settlement planet for those fleeing frontier worlds during the Dominion W= ar. The
planet has fertile soils and a suitable climate for wide-scale agriculture,=
especially
the development of fruit and vegetable crops and grain crops. Much of the
= agricultural
output tends to go to other planets that are not as well developed, and whi= ch lack
widespread replicator technology. During the period of the breakdown of
th= e Khitomer
Accords, the planet was briefly held by Klingon forces, who put in place a = puppet
administration consisting mostly of Sherman's World Klingons. When the Fed= eration-
Klingon hostilities ended, Klingon forces withdrew voluntarily, and most of=
those in
the puppet administration also left because they felt that they had
betraye= d a sense
of honour by usurping the power of the legitimate government. After this p= eriod,
quiet negotiations were concluded with the Klingon government, to reorganiz= e
Sherman's World as a fully Federation world, while allowing the Klingons to=
assume
full control on another jointly-administered planet where Klingon numbers w= ere much
larger.
Space Station K7: originally placed in orbit around Sherman's World to
sol= idify the
Federation claim to the planet, and to be a base of operations for the deve= lopment
of the world, the station has remained, although parts of it had been modif= ied and
expanded, while the design of the station allowed modular upgrades as neces= sary.
Although the central shell remains the same, most of the interior has been
= modernized.
The station serves as a base for ships operating out of the planet, and
als= o as a Starfleet
base for ships patrolling the Federation-Klingon border. Areas of the
stat= ion remain
under civilian control, allowing for traders to do their thing and for
othe= r commerce to
continue. The storage areas of the station contained a number of stasis un= its that
held dead tribbles, those that had died when the grain was poisoned in 2166=
(year un-
certain, TOS "The Trouble With Tribbles"). These units had
remained there = and
basically forgotten about, until the Athena arrived and first officer Julia=
Bayanhong
examined them. She found that not all the tribbles were dead, as some had = used
the process of stasis to very slowly undo the effects of the poison [What
h= appens next
is the story, and I am unsure of how it will proceed].
This gives me ideas for the setting of the story.
