| subject: | Using XP... |
Hello, All. I've got a nice older IBM Thinkcentre computer sitting here that I'd like to use as my ham shack computer. It's a 3.2gHz machine with 2GB of RAM and would be great for doing digital stuff on. The reason for this is that the computer uses the Intel "Extreme Graphics" chip which is only properly supported under XP. There is no support from later versions of Windows due to changes in Windows' video support. I also need the DOS support for a few things I use. I program my Motorola radios using DOSbox which works much better than XP's DOS emulator going through HAL. I have several legal copies of XP including one from Dreamspark that is registered directly to me, so being legal isn't a problem. What I'm wondering is would XP be safe enough to run it as a ham shack machine? I don't visit any weird sites on that machine, mainly only using the Internet with DX Lab Suite accessing QRZ.com and HamQTH.com for logging purposes. Your thoughts? Later, Sean ... All I need is a Wave and a board to surf it on. --- GoldED/2 3.0.1* Origin: Outpost BBS * Johnson City, TN * bbs.outpostbbs.net (1:18/200) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 280 640/384 712/0 620 848 770/1 @PATH: 18/200 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
