From: Daniel Fundo To: Marco Miglionico CC: ATM Archives Reply-To: Daniel Fundo << Has anyone gone as thin as 0.2mm thickness (steel) for their spider vanes? I am reluctant to use the wire spider idea for a planetary scope. >> Marco, I don't know why you would be afraid to use wire. I have successfully used wire spiders on all of my telescopes since about 1972. I use stainless steel wire, 0.013 inch (0.33 mm) diameter with a breaking strength of approximately 40 pounds. I have tested this wire to 80-90 pounds several times before breaking it. There are no spikes to be seen except on the brightest stars at low powers. *****----- Dan F.
