JC> Philosophers, psychiatrists, and psychologists and I have _never_ agreed

I remember an early question I got asked in philosophy class. (The
class was a requirement, by the way; or I would never have taken it.)
The professor asked that traditional question: If you put a pencil in a
desk drawer, and close the drawer, and no-one can see the pencil, is it
still there? I realized instantly that I didn't care whether it was
still there or not. What I cared about was whether I would find it when
I opened the desk drawer to get it out and use it. For all my
curiosity, I am basically a pragmatist, and don't fool around too much
with the completely unknowable.
