I was figuring around the end of March or so.  I see the gcc-8 branch is frozen
for a release.

Not yet.  Turns out that at least one of my machines has a major issue with
5.5.5.  Too bad as I thought that version would look good in a default setup
here.  I am not unhappy where this sits today.
