I've been long against employee job action and anything that smacks of
unappreciation by the employees, but in this latest I have to agree with
a missive from one of the TWU local's newsletters:

Can you honestly blame the union for finding distasteful, a company who
removes the first day of sick time, removes the right to file
grievances, kills every joint union/mgmt committee, blocks the booking
of any new vacation, stops the taking of accumulated time off .... but
all the while claiming that they are putting employees first.

Also, the company has taken a perfectly normal occurrance (stolen copper
cable(by those selling it as scrap metal) and turned it into an
accusation against the union.

This lockout looks like it'll be a long one, because Telus has been
planning this union-busting action for some time! :(

What gets me is the LIES they'll tell!  For instance, if you phone in
for service and ask if they're replacement workers or regular staff,
they'll say regular staff (a lie -- they're either management or scabs!)
:P

I still think that some of the unions are too arrogant, and need to be
taken down a notch or two, but I don't like how big business has chosen
to pick on the one that's always been quite GOOD and FAIR! :(
