Terry May gave up a long homer to Otis Nixon and said:
TM> That /is/ pretty funny. I don't see him enough to know, but certainly
TM> those many boots they showed on SportsCenter were routine grounders.
Baerga had a .911 Zone Rating last year (8th in MLB) and .903 from 1993-1995.
During that same span, Alomar was .864 (.872 in 1995 to rank 17th). Much of
the argument used to show that Baerga was a superior fielder have come from
Zone Rating, DER and Range Factors - stats that are highly dependent on
pitching staff makeup.
I think it's hilarious that Baerga was more than willing to move to third
when the Mets asked him to because he was so much against the Indians signing
Alomar, which would have meant a move to third. I wonder if he was afraid of
how the Indians' fans would react to a SUPERIOR second baseman like Alomar. I
also think it's hilarious that when they both play winter ball in Puerto
Rico, Baerga plays third and it's NOT because he's being a good sport.
Despite all the ZR evidence for him, the PR manager KNOWS who is the better
second sacker.
