No matter... At 4 am this morning, we cracked it.  Wasn't so much a problem 
with the Linux end, as the Windoze end.
Ipswich WS-FTP (or somethaing like that) still refuses to
allow us to connect, but Netscape's "Composer" seemed to manage to upload an 
html page without any trouble at all once we switched over to that and got 
the log-in details set up as it suggested.
Attempting the same thing with the Ipswich FTP still failed to connect.
Some sorta problem huh?  But thanks for your help Warren.
No doubt I'll be back again soon, but at least now we can start to put some 
html's in place.
