Search the archives for posts I made in 1996-1998. I used one lap to polish and figure multiple (four?...ten?) mirrors. I did nothing unusual in the size/thickness/type of polishing tool. Scratching or wire brushing the surface can help a great deal, and avoids the need to make a totally new lap. I used hard pitch. After I figured out what temperature my particular pitch needed...I had smooth figures and little problem with turned edges.
