Concerning _Antenna_, Randy Schumann said to Troy H. Cheek in SCANRADIO:
RS> Um, as a matter of fact, i sometimes have the cb radio AND scanner on
RS> at the smae time...and both can be receiving two different freqs at
RS> the same time...
This, I've tried. And it seems to work. The CB is hanging from under the
dask and the scanner is sitting on a transmission hump-mount, just inches
from each other, without ill effects.
RS> i could be listening to the scanner, and key up on the cb mike and as
RS> far as i can tell, it isn't causing any damage, it just 'mutes' the
RS> scanner while i key up...
This, I've been afraid to try. Oh, I've keyed up the mike accidentally a
time or two, but have never actually transmitted.
I mean, the way I see it, a scanner's antenna input is used to seeing
something like microvolt signal levels coming in. A 4 watt signal being
injected directly into the same input "should" blow the thing to Hell,
shouldn't it?
RS> the splitter, again as far as i can tell, doesn't decrease scanner
RS> sensitivity...
I haven't noticed any difference, either, but I'm reserving judgement until I
get a S-meter installed.
RS> i use my scanner everywhere i go, and after doing what i did to it
RS> with the cb and all,i notice NO changes in scanning operations
RS> whatsoever...it works just as it did before i did this...you may
RS> wanna
RS> try doin' this...
I may, but I'll have to work up my courage first. I went through too much to
turn around and instantly convert this scanner into a $500 paperweight.
RS> if you find a better way of doing this, lemme know :>
Electronic switch to disconnect the antenna feed to the scanner when you key
up the CB.
... And tomorrow when you get up it will be worse.
