-=> Quoting Kris Roebuck to Meng-Shi Lim <=-
KR> Meng-Shi Lim was conversing with All about digital phone lines.
ML> Is digital phone lines common here at all? My PC Card modem has an
ML> RJ11 socket connected to a dongle that supposedly protects the modem
ML> from damage from the high current of digital phone lines. However, I
ML> have not heard of this prior to using a PC card modem.
KR> This is interesting. I didn't think you could connect an analogue
KR> modem to a digital line. I didn't think you needed a modem on a
KR> digital line, just a DSU.
KR> Tell me more.
Some PABX systems are digital and have identical phone connectors to
analog phone system. Apparently, if you plug your modem into one of
these the high current of the digital line can fry your modem. I think
it is possible to modify the PABX system to accept analog modems.
