I guess many of the files can be found either elsewhere or via  
archive.org.

That's the real problem here.

And that's the question: Who has/owns them now and is it possible to  
forward them or buy them from someone? And what would be the price?
Could this price be paid by someone who continues to sell  
registrations or could it be some kind of "crowdfunding"?
