So basically, a 3-head unit is better in terms of efficiency and
convenience (doing everything in one step). Is there any difference
in terms of recording quality?

What exactly is Ferrichrome? Fe2Cr3? Maybe it never caught on
because they ran out of holes to punch on the rear of the tape. :)
