Hello Bob -

BS> 1. FidoNet exists and deserves to survive. However, ...

One person can still make a difference. Obviously that one
person is not you, but some other person could.

BS> 2. What's proposed is what's already implemented - a
BS> gateway between a Fido EchoMail conference and its closest
BS> Internet analog, a mailing list. I'm offering nothing new
BS> except an ad-free host.

Based on one of your own messages where you mentioned you might
look for additional paying advertisers I think not.

BS> 3. How does a gateway suck an echo dry? Fido users will

BS> connect, only through a new mail server.

Email list users are "lurkers" here not contributors.

BS> 4. In the past 15 years, I've never turned a profit from
BS> *any* SNIPPETS activity.

BS> The principle reason is that I don't *want* to make money
BS> on it! (Keep re-reading that until it sinks in!)

Not according to one of your messages posted here not long ago.
I suspect you get on a 'roll' and tell more than you intended.

--8<-- more "BS epoch rambling" cut

BS> SNIPPETS is a non-profit, free educational resource that I
BS> created

No, actually you collected code here written by other people
then disappeared. You did not 'create' it.

--8<-- more "BS epoch rambling" cut

BS> Without SNIPPETS, most of the same information would still
BS> be available - I simply make it easy to find and free.

Much like all the other WWW sites do with less fanfare than you
seem to want/need.

BS> Auke helped me the most, but it was a challenge for him,
BS> and especially so toward the end.

Yes, I know and his name is only on the last page along with
others who did much less I'd wager. Mention Auke on _every_
page and then I'll buy your 'story'.

--8<-- more "BS epoch rambling" cut

BS> Given my normal contract rates, the SNIPPETS server would
BS> have to generate a revenue stream in excess of $150k/yr to
BS> pay for the time I spend on it.

Funny you never hear Tannenbaum, Torvalds, Niklaus Wirth, or
any of a dozen programmers who contributed to GNU referring
to their 'contract rates'.

--8<-- more "BS epoch rambling" cut

BS> All that money goes back into connection fees, site
BS> maintenance, and research expenses.

Again, several of your messages posted here recently
contradict this statement. You've said yourself you did little
to nothing to improve SNIPPETS for something like 8 years now.
My own website is probably comparable to yours and you don't
see me rambling on and on about it here or in any other echo
and it doesn't 'cost' thousands of dollars either.

BS> Try to comprehend this before engaging your paranoia!

The comprehension block is your own when your egomania kicks
in but you contradict yourself.
