subject: Modem Speed?

Hi Peter,

PC> If by an 'ordinary serial port' you mean a 16450 or 8250 UART then you

 PC> you don't run a multitasker (win/Desqview/OS2 etc)

This will cause data overruns and loss on an 8250 UART. You need a 16550
UART to receive data at greater than 19200bps.
