Actually I didn't . For a long time in the south people hid their
drinking. It was something a lot of people did but not out in the open. it
wasn't until the 70's that you could legally HAVE alcohol in certain
Alabama counties. it's still illegal to buy or sell it in those counties
and you are limited in the amount you can have.

It was the LATE 70's before Alabama had private liquor stores and allowed
beer sales in the grocery stores ( PA still has the state liquor stores )
