Well, I was going to download the ref manual for you, but as it happened,
the /pub/support/modem directory on ftp.cirrus.com is empty, so that's sort
of screwed that idea.

Dump it, is probably the most useful comment I can give. Cirrus-based
modems aren't at ALL well supported. I can't offer any suggestions as to
good init strings or information on known quirks. You might get somewhere
if you can get hold of the manual from an XTreama 14k4. Last I heard, and
from pictures of the internal versions in magazines, they are Cirrus
beasties. Put an ad in aust_trading or somewhere similar. Actually, come to
think of it, I don't know of ANY other Austel-approved Cirrus modem sold in
living memory, so yours might well be an XTreama (Xtrum ?)
