That's how it is in a lot of "othernets" also.  In my own
network, I have people feeding via BinkP, email, FTP and POTS (dialup) for
FTN.  I have two main FTNQWK gates and a single FTNNNTP
gate (all three are Synchronet BBSes).  What's nice is that sysops are
willing to go the extra mile to get things setup so everyone can enjoy the
network.  Even here in Fidonet, if you have a feed problem, I know several
people that are willing to feed people either temporarily or permanently.
