subject: New release of Netscape2

Hi James,
JP> Just downloaded the file dated 27 Jun 97 and found the contents
JP> identical to what I downloaded two or three months ago. I think the
JP> 27 Jun date is just an artifact of some housekeeping activity, but
JP> certainly not a new version.
JM> It is indeed an update. Confirmed this with both IBM
JM> and Netscape. There were some serious bugs with the
 JM> March 30, 1997 2.02 version of Netscape/2. The most
JM> serious was the security bug.
Well I just FTP'd the same OLD file with the NEW date! Can you please post
the complete URL (or FTP site, dir and filename) of the updated file and the
details (exact filename, filezies, .ZIP or .EXE, etc). The FTP site I used
was -
    service2.boulder.ibm.com/software/netscape
perhaps this is NOT an official site? It contains all international versions
of Netscape for OS/2, including all the plug packs. The US English version on
that site is a self extracting archive that contained an EXACT copy of the
files in the 16 Dec 1996 version of Netscape/2, identical to the date and
file size (4,411,180) of last years archive, even thought the "updated"
archive was dated 27 Jun 97! The contents are even OLDER than the March 97
release that I have. What on earth is going on here?
JP> It would be very strange for Netscape or IBM to issue an update
 JP> without changing the labeling.
JM> They did not change the labeling because it is not a new version.
That I can accept, but an archive that contains the exact same file sizes and
datestamps of the old Decemeber 1996 release does not seem to make sense to
me. If there IS a new version of Netscape/2 that has been released, then I
suspect that IBM may have several sites for Netscape/2 and one of those
sites (the one I used) is not being updated with the latest version.
Regards...........pk.
