G'day Jason, JA> I have a Netcomm Roadster 288 which has the 33.6Kbps JA> sticker on it. This I assume it works as a 33.6K modem. I too have a Roadster 28.8, could you supply me with a good init string to use? Mine's bitten the bullet..... If it says it is, it is. You can check by doing ATI1, ATI2, up to ATI9, this will tell you about your modem. JA> Just to verify with anyone out there that has a 33.6K modem: JA> assuming the connection is at 33.6K and the line is JA> fairly free of noise, what speed should the data transfer JA> be for a 1 Meg Zip file using Z-modem through a BBS be? The theoretical speed you should get is 4000cps, but usually most 33.6K modems manage to go about 3800cps on a very good 33.6K connect. If the lines are poor it won't be as fast. JA> At the moment I get the speed of around 3200 cps + or - 100 cps on JA> most days when I download files from BBS using Z-modem on Q- JA> modem pro for Win 95. Is this a fairly alright speed or is JA> my modem a fake 33.6K fax modem?? Sounds like a good speed for a 28.8, especially a Roadster. Try using Ymodem-G protocol, you should get about 3360cps but lines have to be excellent. cya ...
