It makes sense that it would still be more prevalent in the south, but I
wonder if it may be more a generational carryover with a thin veneer vs.
deep roots at this point?
I forget now where I read it, but there was an article/entry about the
differences in social norms in various areas. The example used was the
long-term ban on alcohol by the drink in the Carolinas that resulted in
dinner parties at peoples homes rather socializing outside -- a preference
that continues today, in comparison to the rest of the country, even years
after the law was dropped.
