subject: ABORTION ROW HOTS UP

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13311860,00.html

The Catholic Church has urged voters to consider moral issues when casting
their vote at the next election.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor has backed Conservative leader Michael
Howard's recent comments that he would personally support a reduction of the
legal time limit for abortions.

The Archbishop of Westminster has praised Mr Howard's call to cut the legal
abortion limit from 24 weeks to 20.

And he went on to admit that Labour was no longer the party of choice for
Britain's Catholics.

The comments come after the leaders of the three main parties gave their
personal views on abortion.

Prime Minister Tony Blair believes there is no pressing need to change the
laws.

The Cardinal was quoted in the Times as saying: "I'm very pleased that this
has been brought out on the public agenda and that there is going to be a
debate on it.

"It's a key issue. The position is that we are totally opposed to
abortion."
