This is where being metric (in practice, as well as in theory) comes in handy.
1 imperial ton = 1.016 metric tonnes, roughly equal.
10 cm per side cube = 1000 cc water = 1 litre = mass 1 Kg. 100 cm (1 metre)
per side cube = 1000 litres = mass 1000 Kg = 1 tonne.
Regulation Olympic pool: 50 metres * 25 metres * 2 metres deep mimimum.
50*25*2 = 2500 cubic metres = 2500 tonnes.
Many recreation centre "Olympic sized" pools are multi-purpose,
with a shallow end (1.2 metre) for kids etc and a deep end (5 metres) for
diving. Such a pool, with 1/3 splits, would hold about 3400 tonnes.
