SC>> I often wonder how many of the big shots could actually do the SC>> work the employees do for them. MK> That depends. I've met ones that could but I fully understand your MK> wonderment on this particular issue seeing the standards for big shots MK> have deteriorated over the last couple of decades. Obtaining proper MK> certification for those types of jobs isn't what it used to be, if MK> indeed proper certification or standards are even an issue anymore. At the least they should have to take management classes and most don't. They just get the promotion and left to themselves. My second daughter told me about a guy she felt sorry for when he was downsized out of his job as a manager because of his age and the difficulty for an "older" person to get a new job. After she thought about it more, she said once he became a manager he actually slacked off on his job and didn't feel as bad about it. Sure, it is part of the management job to delegate work, but they still have to work themselves. I'm not saying all managers do this, but have seen it in my temp travels over the year. SC>> Maybe more execs need to start out at the very bottom SC>> like that. MK> Could very well be some truth to that. Used to be that engineers were MK> required to take welding courses and the such just so they understood MK> the basics. I think that isn't done anymore by any techical or MK> university institution which might explain quite a bit of the recent MK> shoddy workmanship we hear about. I don't know if it is any worse or MK> better then it ever was but many people do get the impression that MK> standards have deteriorated and if so then the blame could easily be MK> placed on the top rung of this shakey ladder, as it were. The top rung people can be blamed for not keeping tabs on their workers and very possibly not give them the proper training. I've run into "get the work done even if it isn't done right" attitude.
