DR>> I'm so glad that you adopted the mother. Adult cats are truly
DR>> wonderful little critters. My first cat, KD, was adopted as a
DR>> grown-up and she has been a real joy in my life.
WL> I specifically asked for an adult cat. Kittens are cute and
WL> very affectionate, but I wanted to avoid the six-month-old
WL> crazies. IIRC, that particular phase is like a combination of
WL> "the terrible twos" and teenage years in humans.
Six-month-old crazies? Uh oh! I haven't heard of this one before. Boy
will I be in trouble!
WL> I was hoping -- assuming, actually -- that the cat I adopted
WL> would already be "fixed". Meko wasn't; the local Humane
WL> Society gives the adoptive human a certificate, honored by all
WL> the local veterinarians, that is equal to the cost of adoption
WL> when applied toward spaying or neutering. So, lucky me, I got
WL> to take Meko to the vet just as she was beginning to get used
WL> to her new home.
That happened with me and KD. Two or three days after I adopted her,
she was off to the vet's office. It worked out well, though. She's a
happy little critter.
DR>> KD prefers the middle of my bed or inside my underwear drawer. Honey
DR>> prefers clean laundry.
WL> Meko's behavior has changed drastically since she came back
WL> from the vet's. Before, she would hide under the bed and paw
WL> at anything (such as toes) that came within range. Now, she
WL> won't come into the bedroom at all if I'm there. In fact, she
WL> spends nearly all her time in the utility room and kitchen.
WL> Her favorite bed is in a laundry basket -- but it's filled
WL> with old throw rugs. Clean laundry gets put away immediately,
WL> so she's never had a chance to develop that taste in lounging
WL> locations.
Clean laundry gets put away? Well I'll be darned. Actually, I
have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, so the apartment suffers in its
cleaning detail. The cats don't seem to mind. More stuff that they can
play with and get into.
DR>> In this house it is fried chicken. Bacon is not to be shared. Bacon
DR>> is for the cats only.
WL> Haven't tried bacon yet, but Meko is indifferent to fried
WL> chicken. She doesn't care for chicken-flavor Pounce, either.
WL> She's a *strange* kitty.
How can you tell?
DR>> My beasts are amused with the hall closet. I'm pretty sure they think
DR>> it is an opening to another dimension.
WL> Are you *sure* it isn't? And does the vacuum-cleaner monster
WL> live there?
The vacuum-cleaner monster moves around a lot. Sometimes it is in the
hallway, sometimes in the living room, sometimes the bedroom, sometimes
in their bathroom (the walk-in closet at the end of the hall). The odd
thing is that the hall closet door keeps opening and closing at various
times during the day. The cats and I live alone and no one else is
doing it. Hmmm....maybe there is *something* in there.
WL> NEWS FLASH! It appears Meko is not interested in catnip --
WL> but that toy mouse's tail is irresistible.
Cool! So she won't have to go to catnip anonymous(e) one day.
