We drained into ditches or creeks. The water we put in there would have
gotten there anyway, but our way made it go through the ground first, rather
than running off the top, so it actually cleans up the creek water. Because
of the sponge action of the field when it's well-drained, the peak flows in
creek is also lowered.
They used to use drain wells here, too, but they were outlawed many years
o.
