IMHO we do indeed, but we're talking about the very top of the legal
system, where one might assume domain experience is somewhat relevant. :-)
One obvious difference, BTW, is that there are mechanisms to turf the
President if their (say) non-traditional qualifications turned out to be a
bad fit for the job. Doesn't appear to be any such mechanism for Supreme
Court justices.
