Thanks for the replies regarding the problem with the XP PC.  They have had 
someone closer by look at it, and they also think it needs either a repair
or a fresh install of XP to correct the problem.
 
That actually brings me to another question.  I am not certain what
firewall software they are using.  Is the built-in Windows XP firewall good
enough for someone hooked up via cable modem, or should they seriously
consider installing something like ZoneAlarm?
