Subject : Strange Modem
---
I have always been rather impressed with the technological knowledge of the
users of this area, so I was wondering whether someone here could help me.
Today, while rummaging through a freinds attic, I pulled out a
"DATACRAFT 5020" data modem. It appereantly has speeds up to
19200 and has sync and async modes. As I only posses a meager 2400 modem, I
immedaitly begged for the use of it and he conceeded. I took it home, only
to discover it had no standard phone connection. It has a normal serial
port and also another port labeled TB1 and also TX | RX (9 pins)
My questions are
1. what is sync and sync ( i know what there short for, but I sure as hell
cant spell them :-)
2. Does the term Datamodem imply that it may only be used between
computers? If so how does this work
3. Is there a way to convert this for use with a phone line. The modem is
produced in Autrailia, so it should be compatable with aus. phones
Thanx in advance
Lee
