Did you mean path names, or directory names within the path? I
believe that Wolf posted an example with a path longer than 8
characters that works for him, although he had resorted to the short
name versions for the directories.
In any case, there is one trick that could be used to shorten the
path and/or get over some of the intermediate directory names not
being 8 characters --- it is called mapped drives. It is possible
to map a drive letter to a folder buried deep in the directory tree
of another drive. Or at least is is possible when you have
networking set up. I don't know if it is possible to set up
networking if you have only one computer.
The process starts from the "tools" menu on the explorer (file
manager) application. You can select any available drive letter, and
you can then browse down to the folder you want. It might be
necessary that the folder is set for sharing, not sure.
