I have been looking at a Savage 99 "takedown" model in .300 Savage.
I've been talking to Dave Norton who seems to be pretty knowledgeable
about them. I've also been using the "Blue Book" of gun values. Dave
did mention something about the .308 chambering as a weakness but I
never asked him for specifics. With my interest in the rifle, I have
begun to notice them at gunshows and have priced them. I do note that
the .308 chamberings command the lowest prices -- all other things
considered.
One other note. When I went to the Shotshow in Las Vegas a few years
back, I also went to a very high-dollar show at one of the
Casino/hotels. They were selling stuff like Shotguns for $120,000.00
etc. I noticed quite a few pristine and beautiful Savage 99's there.
They seemed to be about the cheapest firearms that won high-dollar
collector interest.
I am going to write a post to Dave right now about the one that I am
interested in possibly buying.
