INdeed, and there are redresses if it is found out that they were not
obeyed.  BUt, that's cold comfort to the fellow who was wrongfully
convicted, spent some time behind bars, then
new evidence suggests what he'd been saying all along and
he's suddenly free.  Free to try to regain the life he had.
Opportunities lost; falsely branded a criminal.  Very cold
comfort to him.  ASk this individual how much he cares about the
constitutional protections he was supposed to get before he went to trial
the first time.

BUt indeed, there are laws, and there constitutional
safeguards.  THe Geneva conventions are supposed to act as
such a check on interrogators of prisoners and the handling
of prisoners of war, etc.
