they had some serious "attachment issues" and couldn't stand the thought of 
being separated from their fruit. }8)
personally, i have always thought it a bad idea to attribute emotions to 
plants.

Have you been fertilizing them?  It's very important for barrel 
tomatoes as they use up the nutrients very quickly.  I expect that you 
are watering them daily...
