VH>Maybe you're not the guy to ask -- since you've sunk a lot of effort in
VH>your 10/22 -- but answer me honestly: Which goodies and modifications
VH>would you pick, and in which order, if you wanted accuracy at a low
VH>cost?
I know that you didn't ask me, but here is my 2 cents worth:
Besides polishing the action, I'd buy one box of every brand of
.22 ammo that I could get my hands on. Try them all from the
bench at 100 yds. Buy a case of the same lot of the one that
gives the best group. With proper selection you should get some
that will group less than 1 inch. You shouldn't need to buy the
super expensive stuff either. I have gotten less than 1" groups
with the brass case Russian Junior brand. I currently use
Winchester T-22 for my silhoutte shooting.
Now I can't shoot that good offhand, but I figure that I need
all the help I can get!
VH>JS>VH>I'd also get a good scope.
Definately!
VH>JS>I have a bushnell sportview on it now. It's coming off, it just does
o
VH>JS>hold up like it should. I thinking of a Simmons next.
I have a bushnell banner 10 X 40 with wind drift and bullet drop
compensator dials on each of my silhoutte rifles and they work
just fine.
VH>Some swear by Simmons, some swear at them. I don't have any
experience VH>with them.
VH>JS>VH>Then I'd start shooting -- only when I was convinced I could shoot
VH>JS>VH>better than the rifle would I start rebarelling.
Good advice.
VH>JS>Yes, I've got several bricks of Super-x waiting to be converted into
VH>JS>brass only. :-)
VH>I watch the ads -- in Shotgun News and in the local paper. When I see
VH>them selling .22s for under $1.00 a box, I buy a case.
VH>I have had people yap at me about that "cheap ammo" but I can't shoot
VH>offhand any better than that cheap ammo will shoot -- and I do 99.9% of
VH>my shooting from offhand.
