Glenn,
Forget about oil drums. An alternate is to use two
saw horses, a 1 inch thick top, and then a work piece with the mirror
wedges that fits over the top. Instead of walking around the barrel, rotate
the bottom piece in the opposite direction that you rotate whatever is on
top.
This has worked for me, and I stole this from the Dobson
video and the ever cantankerous Richard.
In between mirrors, you can use this around the house as
mirror testing supports, mixing dental stone, OTA support while you
determine how far to slide the mirror into the tube, table for sky
maps...you know, important things.

Subject: ATM dumb question about oil drums
Hi List,
Okay, I live in Brooklyn, NY ... er ,,, where might I find a big ol' oil
drum (empty) to use as a grinding stand? I mean, what sort of place would
even *have* such a thing?
I know this is simple sounding, but ... :)
Grinding on the floor has gotten old, and I anticipate future projects.
Thanks,
Glenn
