OK, I can "Say" that many things don't happen to one starship. I
might even practice it. Note that years have passed without anything
significant happening between the Kongo's adventures. However, I am not
going to ding someone else on the point. Star Trek is about things happen
to starships and the people in them. Should a starship have 26 life
threatening things happen in a single year? I really don't think so unless
it is a war front. If I was personally on a ship that had 26 weird or
dangerous thing happen in one year I would seek safer employment, like bomb
disposal.

So yes, I say that many things could not happen to one ship, but I'll
gladly walk right past the point for a good story.

As to technobabble, I try to avoid it. I do consider in a vague way how
various parts of the Terknology work in order to keep things internally
consistent. The Kongo is not going to start fueling the warp engines with
peeps. Nor am I going to start a flame war with Steve because I know he
handles warp technology differently than I do. There is nothing saying he
is less right than I am. The main thing is that Steve doesn't toss in
Garry-Tech in the middle of a story and I don't suddenly switch to
Steve-Tech in one of mine. Jay keeps AI dark and scary and I have mine
puppy friendly willing to crawl into your lap. Internal consistency is the
thing that is "realistic" here.
